CRUIKSHANKS GSB (Vol. 20 p.853)

Volume 20 of The General Stud Book page 853 states, “1903 bay colt Cruikshanks, by Minstrel (son of Minting).  Bred by Mr L.A. Beamish.

However in The Polo and Riding Pony Stud Books his name is recorded as Cruickshanks, sire Minstrel by Minting.  Foaled 1903, bred by Mr Ludlow Beamish and given the Stallion Number 584.

Cruikshanks is further noted as a Hunter Stallion Number 87.

In 1912 he was placed Third and Reserve at the Bath and West Show gaining The Polo and Riding Pony Society’s Silver Medal.

Earlier in 1912 he was placed Fourth in The Open Stallions Class, at The London Show of The polo and Riding Pony Society.  The Judge, Mr Joseph Oscar Muntz comments,  “ Cruickshanks, who was placed fourth, (to Arthur D, Spanish Hero and Naval Scare), was one of the best ponies in the class, but was hopelessly handicapped by having broken his leg as a colt, and being crippled he was unable to show the paces. A dark brown stallion of great substance with good shoulders and short back, vast quarters and great muscular development.”

Later in 1912 Cruikshanks was exported to South Africa.

Cruikshanks was sire of :

Brown Colt 1909
Forked Lightning
Dusk
Nectarine
