ADMIRAL TOGO Dartmoor stallion, whole coloured dark bay colt foaled in 1903. Bred by the Hearn Brothers, of Oakley, Horrabridge, Devon and registered in, Volume 12 of The Polo and Riding Pony Society, he was 13.0 hands high, (measured in September, 1911) and given the stallion number 570.

Type – These Committees are desired to register only Ponies of riding type, and those which on the dam’s side, are of pure pony blood. The Society considers that the foundation stock of these breeds should not be registered unless they contain three-quarters pony blood.

Resolution of the Dartmoor Local Committee, September 9th, 1902. – That Judges inspecting ponies for entry in this section shall not pass any that are known to have more than one-quarter Thorough-bred or Arab blood or one-eighth Hackney blood, and shall, as far as possible, adhere to the pure Dartmoor and ponies of the riding type.

Notes:
In February 1904 Japan declared war on Russia. Admiral Togo was a brilliant Japanese commander who inflicted great losses on the Russians. After the terrible battle of Tsushima in May 1905 both sides sought peace and Japan asked Presdent Theodore Roosevelt to act as peacemaker.
