2435 OLD LOVE GSB (Vol 22 p.623) bay filly Foaled 1909.
Bred in Ireland by Major J.H. Purvis, Old Love did not race, she was purchased in 1913 by Miss Imogen Collier and registered as a, “Polo and Riding Pony Mare”, (Number 2435) in Volume 13 page 46 of that Society. Later she received the Hurlingham Number 11094, (being four years and 14 hands high), she was trained for Polo by Miss Collier
During 1913 and 1914 Old Love competed in “local shows”, (Devon and Cornwall), also further afield, accompanied by “stable companions” notably Grasshopper II, entering Hack, Jumping, Polo and Musical Chairs competitions with considerable success.
The Great War caused much heartache with the compulsory conscription of horses and ponies for the, “war effort, ” (from 3rd-15th August 1914, some 165,000 horses were taken). Old Love now five years old was not one of them.
Arthur’s Pride acquired in 1915 from, “the sale” held by executors of the estate of the late, Sir John Barker, Bart., covered Old Love in 1916 producing in 1917 the filly New Love.
