HEATHER MIXTURE a whole coloured chestnut filly foaled in 1910. Bred by Mr J. Westaway Daw, of Walreddon, Tavistock Devon who was owner of her dam Queen of the Moor, a Dartmoor Pony.

Heather Mixture’s first owner was Miss Calmady-Hamlyn of Bidlake Vean, Bridestowe, Devon who entered her in Volume 12, (1911-12) of the Polo and Riding Pony Society. Measured in August 1912 she was twelve and a half hands high and was passed to her second owner Miss Imogen Mary Collier already covered by Hearwood.

On September 9th, 1902 a Resolution of the Dartmoor Local Committee stated, “That Judges inspecting ponies for entry in this section, (Dartmoor Section of The Polo and Riding Pony Stud Book), shall not pass any that are known to have more than one-quarter Thoroughbred or Arab blood or one-eighth Hackney blood, and shall as far as possible, adhere to the pure Dartmoor and ponies of the riding type. The Society considers that the foundation stock of these breeds should not be registered unless they contain three quarters pony blood.
Queen of the Moor, Heather Mixture’s dam, foaled in 1895, was a Dartmoor Pony bred by Mr J.W. Westaway, of Whitestone, Mary Tavy, Devon who won in 1904, 1st Prize (Dartmoor Brood Mares), and Reserve for the Cup for the Best Mountain or Moorland Brood Mare, at the Polo and Riding Pony Society, London Spring Show.
