ROBBERY was a chestnut mare with a star, race, diamond and bald snip front and inside near hind coronet, foaled in 1905 and bred by J.S. Griffiths, of Crickmale, Pembroke. She was a polo pony registered at Hurlingham, (certificate 12089), and owned by Major J.S. Bakewell of Cromhall, Charfied, Gloucestershire.

Robbery was entered in Volume 13, (1913-1914) of the National Pony Society, mare number 2571, some of her prizes and those of her produce were as follows:

1914:
– Romsey (Brood Mares) 1st prize and National Pony Society’s Silver Medal
– Stolen Wings – her 1914 foal, National Pony Society’s Bronze Medal

1915:
– London Show, of the National Pony Society, Class 8, (Brood Mares not exceeding 14.2 h.h., with foal at foot or to foal in 1915 – Heavy-weight.) 3rd prize
– Royal Agricultural Show Nottingham, June 29th – July 3rd (Mare with foal at foot.) 1st prize
– Stealway her foal – Reserve for the National Pony Society’s Bronze Medal
– Colt/ Filly or Gelding foaled 1914… Stolen Wings, Robbery’s 1914 foal, 2nd prize

1916:
– London Show of the National Pony Society, Class 8, (Brood Mares . . . . Heavy-weight) 2nd prize
– Royal Agricultural Society of England at Manchester, 27th June – 1st July (Mare with foal at foot) 2nd prize and Reserve for National Pony Society’s Gold Medal
– The Brigand her foal – Reserve for the Bronze Medal of the National Pony Society for the best Foal

1917:
– London Show of the National Pony Society, Class 8, (Brood Mares . . . . Heavy-weight) 3rd prize

1920:
– London Show of the National Pony Society, Class 8, (Brood Mares . . . . Heavy-weight) 1st prize and the Society’s Gold Medal for the best Polo-bred Mare or Filly

Mr Walter Jones on the breeding Classes said, “. . . . . Brood Mares (Heavy-weight). A disappointing class in number, but the quality was there. The winner “Robbery” is a great mare. . . . .” Lieutenant Colonel H.N. Schofield, V.C. on Classes 1-12 . . . “the winner Robbery in class 8 (brood mares, heavy weight) a very good sort of mare . . .”


“Robbery” was also the winner of a Special Prize, for Brood Mares.

Robbery now became the property of Mrs Joseph Oscar Muntz, and made her journey to Foxhams where she continued to prosper, she won in :-
1920:
– Devon County Show Exeter – 1st Prize
– Brentor and Lydford, 2nd August, (Brood Mares 4 years and upwards) 3rd Prize

1922:
– Bath and West – 2nd Prize
– Brentor and Lydford, 7th August – 2nd Prize

1923:
– Devon County, (Polo Mare) National Pony Society’s Silver Medal
– Devon County Agricultural Show, Bideford, May 29th, 30th and 31st, (Brood Mares not exceeding 15h.h.) 1st Prize and the National Pony Society’s Silver Medal for the best Polo Pony Brood Mare
– Brentor and Lydford, 2nd Prize
– Okehampton, 1st Prize

In 1928 Robbery was entered as one of the competitors in the, “dam groups”, there were thirteen groups.
In 1929 she was again entered for the, “dam groups”, this time there were sixteen entrants.
